Signs that Multi-Task
Signcraft was recently asked to design, construct and install a large
format monolith sign for a relatively new office building for Tamesis in
Staines, Middlesex. Whilst the prime requirement was to landmark the
building, the customer wanted multiple functionality from the sign - not
always easy without distracting from its prime purpose.
In this
application, the sign also needed to provide a tenant directory and act
as a marketing tool. The site and scPolystyreneale - standing five
metres tall and being placed strategically in the well developed forward
landscaping area - was certainly suitable for such a requirement, giving
it great exposure.
'The result? A sign that looks great and
quite literally multi-tasks!'
So Signcraft's Director Tony
White set about designing a structure and sign that would not only look
impressive, but perform the multiple functions required... with style!
Tony designed the sign as a tubular steel space frame, clad with
aluminium face panels with detachable tenant plates. Signcraft
instructed a structural engineer to advise us with regard to wind
loadings; the foundations were, therefore, quite substantial and cast in
grade 1 concrete. Polystrene blacks were set into the base, which were
removed once the base had set to provide holes for the sign legs to be
inserted. The sign was lifted into the block using a crane and fast
setting cement slurry was introduced to set the sign permanently.
'The
result? A sign that looks great and quite literally multi-tasks!'
